MCE AND THE MP ADDRESSING THE GATHERING

In his opening remarks, Nene Martey Kwame on behalf of the Amankrado of Old Asoya could not hide his expression as he said schools or institutions are tools on which communities mostly thrive. He commended the Municipal Assembly and the government for selecting the community for the honour. He called on the school authority to take good care of the school building for it to last long. He also challenged both teachers and pupils to put little efforts in both teaching and learning to redeem the honour done the school and the community.

The headmistress, Mrs. Grace Asare in her submission showered tons of praises on the Municipal Assembly for constructing such an edifice for the school. She gave a brief history of the school and that it is now a privilege to boast of a proper school building. She applauded the Municipal Chief Executive and the Member of Parliament for throwing their weight behind the construction of the school block. Again, she pleaded with the MCE and the MP to use their good office to provide the school with computer laboratory to facilitate teaching and learning of I.C.T.

The MCE in his reaction said he was unenthused about the school’s poor performance in the last Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). He called on the teachers to devote a little time to fine-tune the pupils in the process of learning. He also challenged pupils to have ample time for their studies and eschew from social vices and things capable of jeopardizing their future. He said the performance of the school during the last BECE exam was nothing to write home about. He called on the school to back-up. He was unamused when he said the Municipal Assembly is currently rated 176th on the MMDA’s rating radar and for him, that was far below standard. He called for all hands on deck to move the Municipality to a dizzying height.

He lauded the Project Contractor, works Engineer and the community for the role they played in constructing the project. He employed the school authority to take good care of the facility so that it could stand the test of time. He gingered the final year students when he pronounced that the Assembly would fully fund a secondary education of any individual who will obtain aggregate 12 and below in the forthcoming Basic Education Certificate Examination.

Hon. Member of Parliament, Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah was rather emotional and sad about the current trend of descendency in educational standard in Akuapem North Municipal. She stressed on the fact that these days, school children are no longer enthused about books but rather glued to popular television programmes such as “Kumkum Bagya” which has contributed immensely to the poor performance over the years. She said the Municipal Assembly will soon engage the teachers in a conversation to see how best to organize extra classes for the final year students in order to nip this canker once and for all in the bud.

To draw curtains down the programme, Hon. Nana Ama Dokua was assisted by Odikro Nene Martey Kwame to cut sod to the facility amidst drumming and dancing by the school children and the entire community.
